SPAWNERS mission is to protect the San Pablo Creek Watershed and inspire community appreciation and stewardship through advocacy, education, and habitat restoration.
Description:
SPAWNERS goal is to involve residents in understanding and protecting the watershed and related habitat. We hold restoration workdays, creek cleanups and GPS and vegetation surveys. We work with student and youth programs. We have established an extensive native plant demonstration garden. We hold monthly community meetings with educational speakers on topics relating to watershed health.
History:
In the spring of 2000, SPAWNERS was formed by the Watershed Project and local residents who had a desire to make San Pablo Creek a greater community asset and protect its natural resources. The first project was removing ivy and trash from the El Sobrante library grounds and creating a demonstration garden. Since then, the garden has been expanded, many sections of the creek have been cleaned, a website has been developed.
