Our mission is to improve the quality of life of our impoverished neighbors through short and long-term assistance. We do this through the provision of quality, subsidized childcare for children in Stage 2 and Stage 3 CalWorks programs; employment training and job placement through our countywide 'workforce development' collaborative (formerly known as San Leandro Works); mental health program focusing on substance abuse intervention and prevention, domestic violence. . as well as work with the perpetrator in the relationship in order to break the cycle of violence; basic needs such as food, clothing and utility assistance and finally free acute medical care. All these services are provided at the Family Resource Center located in West San Leandro, adjacent to Ashland to the south and East Oakland to the North.
Description:
We have provided support services to low-income people for over 34 years and specifically workforce development programs to CalWorks clients for the past 6 years. Under the 'neighborhood model' funding we launched a collaborative partnership called 'San Leandro Works' in 1999 and continue to act as the lead agency for a group of organizations committed to offering a continuum of care to clients transitioning off welfare
History:
Founded in 1971 as a ministry of the First Christian Church to provide basic emergency support services to low-income people of the Eden Area, Davis Street Community Center incorporated in 1990. Services have grown to extend our outreach to low income working poor, seniors, disabled individuals and entitlement eligible people, particularly those on CalWorks
