Our Mission is to provide direct service programs on behalf of frail, homebound seniors living in Fremont, Newark and Union City that promote healthy lifestyle choices, support daily well-being and enable independent living for as long as safely possible.

Description:
LIFE ElderCare, Inc. provides the basics of life -- food and friendship -- to at-risk members in the community. Our Meals on Wheels Progam delivers over 89,000 meals per year. Our Friendly Visitor Program provides friendship to over 150 isolated seniors. Our VIP Rides Program, since its inception in 2005 has provided over 6,000 matches. In the past year, over 80% of the matches were for medical appointments. Since 2005, Our Falls Prevention Program has served over 800 frail, homebound seniors.

History:
Virginia Calson of Fremont began LIFE ElderCare in 1975 as a nutritional program with delivery to Fremont's frail, homebound seniors. Meals were prepared and packaged at a local school kitchen and delivered by a group of volunteers. That first year of service, some 300 meals were provided and today, Meals on Wheels at LIFE ElderCare provides over 350 meals per day to frail, homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities living in Fremont, Newark and Union City.

In 1985, the Friendly Visitor Program was established. This program matches volunteers with homebound seniors to enjoy good conversation, laughter, and companionship.

VIP Rides was created to link seniors and disabled non-seniors with volunteers to assist/accompany them while traveling to medical appointments, grocery shopping or errands using Paratransit, or volunteers may use their own vehicles to drive ambulatory seniors and disabled non-seniors who require door through door assistance.

Our Falls Prevention Program provides an in-home exercise program for frail, homebound seniors, home safety checks, minor home modifications (hand held showers, grab bar, etc.), and medication review to help prevent possible drug interaction (a leading cause of falls for seniors).
