History:
Toolworks, in partnership with people with disabilities, is a human service agency dedicated to providing the tools and resources that promote independence, equality, and personal satisfaction. Toolworks was established in 1975 as a private, nonprofit corporation serving individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area by:
- Providing services that increase economic and social opportunities for people with disabilities
- Creating programs driven by client choice
- Encouraging personal growth to increase one's potential
- Educating the community to value the strengths and abilities of each individual
Toolworks has been self-supporting from its inception, relying primarily upon funding from the operation of service contracts staffed by its trainees. Other funding sources are training fees by referring agencies and occasional grants from public and private sources. The agency is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
