Assistance League of Amador Valley is a nonprofit organization dedicated to hands-on volunteerism, assisting those in need through unique service projects.

Description:
Assistance League of Amador Valley is a 501 (c) (3) corporation and is non-political and non-sectarian. In the fifteen years since ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Amador Valley started in the Tri-Valley area, we have given assistance to the following five projects.

Operation School Bell provides new backpacks, jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, underwear and shoes to disadvantaged children in the Tri-Valley schools. More than 30,000 children have received tutoring, books, and clothing in the past fifteen years.
Caring About the Retired and Elderly maintains the new and used magazine library at Pleasanton Senior Center. Our volunteers also participate in the “Book Buddies” program and serve lunch at the Snappy Cafè. Our volunteers help with hands-on social activities at Pleasanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, i.e., Happy Hour, flower arranging, and the yearly County Fair Walk. Since beginning our service, 1,340 retired and elderly seniors have benefited at the Pleasanton Senior Center and Pleasanton Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Screening Eyes Early will screen approximately 1,200 preschool children for amblyopia (lazy eye) at ten Tri-Valley preschools this year. We have screened more than 14,000 preschoolers since we began this project in 1995.

At Horizon High School our volunteers help school-age parents earn high school diplomas. We provide tutoring to students and motivational incentives to help them stay in school. Over 1,050 school age parents have had their lives enriched through our services and support at Horizon High School.

Assault Survivor Kits provides basic clothing, toiletries and teddy bears to Tri-Valley Haven to be given to assault victims. More than 50 victims of assault have received clothing and toiletry kits through Assault Survivors Kits.

History:
Our chapter was formed in December 1990 with 43 charter members from Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore. We actively recruit new members through personal contact and community outreach. In the past year (2004-2005), our members gave 9,023 volunteer hours touching the lives of at least 4,400 area residents. The estimated value of our members’ donated hours is $153,368.
