Contra Costa Interfaith Housing's mission is to provide permanent, affordable, supportive housing for individuals and families in Contra Costa County.
Description:
Contra Costa Interfaith Housing (CCIH) is a collaboration of many interdenominational faith communities in Contra Costa that have pooled their resources and talents to provide permanent supportive housing to homeless families and individuals. CCIH's first project is the Garden Park Apartments located in Pleasant Hill. This program provides 27 formerly homeless families with permanent housing and on-site supportive services by a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with activities and support provided by volunteers.
History:
Contra Costa Interfaith Housing had its origins in 1991 and eventually grew into a coalition of faith communities dedicated to addressing homelessness in Contra Costa County. They were particularly interested in assisting families with special needs. In 1997 CCIH was incorporated and in 2000, the site for the Garden Park Apartments was purchased. CCIH then collaborated with Mercy Housing California (MHC) to do the development on the project. Together MHC and CCIH raised over 5 million dollars for acquisition, rehab, and operating reserves for the project. In December, 2004, CCIH opened the first permanent supportive housing program for homeless families in Contra Costa County.
