Recognizing the growing population of older adults, the City of Concord has joined with its citizens to build and operate a Center to serve as a hub of the senior community. The Center is dedicated to the needs of today and open to change to meet the needs of tomorrow. The presence and participation of Concord's diverse citizens will be encouraged and embraced through expanded programs ans services that meet social, recreational, physical, enrichment and nutritional needs. The City, in collaboration with the community, will facilitate the realization of this vision through the implementation of actions and strategies.
Description:
The Concord Senior Center is a multi-service center for active adults 50 plus. The center provides various services through collaboration with aging network service providers. In additional to the traditional recreational activities such as cards, board games, billiards, and bingo, the center is co-sponsoring with the educational systems to provide enriching educational classes and workshops and collaborated on cultural special events. Each year the center sponsors and Hawaiian Dinner Concert in August and Health LifeStyle and Resource Fair in April and Older Americans Month Celebration in May. Other services provided are Care Management, HICAP, Tax Aide, Legal Services, Senior Peer Counseling, Nutrition, Multilingual Health Navigation Program and others.
History:
The City of Concord has provided senior citizens programing for over 40 years with the assistance of Concord Senior Citizens Club. This non-profit organization provides social recreational opportunities for the community through its membership which compliments the offerings by the City. Collaboratively all partners of the Senior Center provide a variety of activities and programs to meet the needs for the matured adults in the community.
