The mission of the International Institute of the East Bay is to act as resource for immigrants and refugees, enabling them to achieve self-sufficiency; and to promote mutual appreciation and understanding within the community.
Description:
Founded in 1919, the International Institute of the East Bay is one of the oldest, most established organizations in the Bay Area serving immigrants and refugees by helping them to become self-sufficient, proud contributing members in American society. The Institute is composed of three departments. The Training and Employment Department provides practical instruction and job training that has assisted thousands of people to enter the job force and contribute to their local community. Training includes infant and child development, internships in childcare centers, Vocational English as a Second Language classes, financial literacy, computer instruction, and career development seminars. Employment services include job search coaching with a special focus on understanding the American workplace culture, as well as connections to job openings in a wide range of industries. The Legal Department reunites families separated by the migration process and helps them achieve their dream of becoming American citizens. The Social Services Department helps newcomers move from crisis to self-sufficiency through case managed assistance that connects them to essential social and health services in the community.
