The mission of the Hercules senior Center is to provide services and facilities which enhance the quality of life of all senior citizens regardless of race, religion, ethnic origin, or cultural heritage. The center sponsors a broad variety of educational, health and recreation programs and serves as a focal point for linking seniors with needed social services. The center provides seniors with as environment which fosters social interaction, work-like opportunities, as well as opportunities for continued intellectual growth and development. It is hoped that participants take active roles in promoting the Center and its activities.
Description:
We are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. We provide information and programs for older adults. We have a nutrition program here on the days we are open. Some the services are; Free tax preparation, HICAP, Senior Legal services, day trips and extended trips as well. We provide exercise classes ranging from low impact to Tai Chi, and many more. The staff is a one person show so I rely on volunteers for all most everything.
History:
In 1987 a group of senior from Hercules grouped together and was able to get enough signatures to apply for a California grant to have this senior center built. It was dedicated in 1989. We are a multi-cultural center which adds to us. We now have over 300 members. Seniors that come to the senior center live in Rodeo, Pinole, Crockett, El Sobrante, El Cerrito, San Pablo and even Port Costa.
