To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

Description:
The First Tee provides Life Skills Education to boys and girls ages 8 through 18 years-old. Classes are taught at two facility sites in Concord and Antioch, CA on multiple days during the week. The First Tee TARGET program is an after-school program conducted at schools and youth agency facilities that introduces youth to The First Tee. It promotes safe and fun experiences that introduce golf and life skills at a baseline level. Life Skills Education is a comprehensive education program that moves participants through four levels of learning:

PAR Level - Emphasizes communication skills and self-management.

BIRDIE Level - Emphasizes goal setting.

EAGLE Level - Builds on PAR and BIRDIE Levels and also emphasizes resistance skills, conflict resolution and planning for the future.

ACE Level - Offers advanced coaching and practice in many of the life skills introduced in the PAR, BIRDIE and EAGLE levels.

The First Tee classes are conducted at Diablo Creek Golf Course in Concord, CA and Lone Tree Golf Course in Antioch, CA.

History:
The First Tee was started in 1997 by the World Golf Foundation and gives young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character-education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, responsibility, and sportsmanship. The First Tee of Contra Costa was formed as an official Chapter of The First Tee in June 2004. Today, there are over 1,850 youth enrolled in The First Tee Life Skills programs.
