Bilingual volunteers are needed to visit with limited-English proficient hospital patients to provide companionship, as well as essential information about the hospital environment and programs. In response to medical staff, may be asked to provide non-medical interpretation for patient and/or their family. Volunteers, 18 years and older, must be comfortable in a hospital setting and communicating with people of all age groups. Must have ability to comfort and reassure patients in a variety of situations. Professionalism and discretion is a must. Candidate must be mature, responsible and discreet. Must be proficiently bilingual in English/Asian language (Cantonese especially needed.) Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of one weekday shift from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (some afternoon shifts from 1:00-4:00 are available.) Once interviewed by program coordinator, volunteers will be required to complete medical center orientation and health screening. Once completed, training will be arranged with a mentor volunteer.
