Keep America Beautiful Great America Cleanup - E. Oakland
powered by United eWay
Last updated on March 18, 2008

Volunteers are needed to assist in a major community cleanup and beautification project, the 2008 Keep America Beautiful Great America Cleanup, being held in East Oakland on Saturday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. The staging location for the Keep America Beautiful Great America Cleanup project will be the Courtyard area at the Castlemont community of small high schools at 8601 MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland.

Volunteers will sign in about about 8:30 a.m. and will be assigned to work in one of several teams. There will be a Kickoff event, and also a pizza luncheon at approximately 12:15 to 12:30 for the volunteers. We hope to have T-shirts for volunteers.

Volunteers will be assisting in working in teams that will help in picking up litter in East Oakland neighborhoods, carrying out a beautification project at the entry to the Castlemont high schools, and working with City staff on storm drain stenciling and cleanups, along with graffiti removal being done by City of Oakland staff. The East Oakland neighborhood cleanup effort will be from 82nd Avenue to 98th Avenue on MacArthur Boulevard and Bancroft Boulevard, and along Gold Links Road.

The Keep America Beautiful Great America Cleanup in East Oakland has multiple partners including the City of Oakland's Keep Oakland Beautiful Advisory Board, the national Keep America Beautiful organization, City Council member Larry Reid, Waste Management, Scotts Miracle-Gro, Honda, Pepsi, Honda/Redwood City Honda, Pizza Hut, Glad, the Oakland Parent Literacy Project, Noah's Bagels, and other local businesses and churches.

No training requirement. No limitations on who may volunteer, probably best for youth and adults.
