Help adults learn to read and write!
Powered by Truist

We are looking for patient people to help adults improve their reading, writing, math and other basic skills.

Although previous experience in literacy or teaching is helpful, it is not necessary; as a volunteer, you'll receive excellent training tips from adult learners themselves. And you'll help them share their life experiences in writing--each semester we produce a booklet of student writings that features powerful poetry and moving prose describing the wide range of life experiences of people of many ages, races, and backgrounds.

This is a great opportunity for retirees who enjoy working with others and who seek a volunteer opportunity that strengthens our community. It is also an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in entering the teaching or literacy fields to get direct experience in a supportive setting.

We prefer volunteers who can commit to coming at least one morning per week. Class hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.

Our only other requirements are that you have patience and an openness to listening to and working with others.
