Wetland restoration activities change with the seasons and this early fall volunteers will improve habitat by removing non-native plants, collecting native plant seeds and transplanting plants in our nurseries. Volunteers will also help with site monitoring and shoreline clean-up. In November and December prepare to help plant seedlings directly into the ground, revegetating the wetlands with native plants. The activities are easy to learn and help us make a positive impact on the health of these vital wetland, creek, and salt pond habitats. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff, and all tools and instruction are provided. This urban area includes some of the last remaining wetland habitat in the East Bay and is home to many species, including the endangered California clapper rail and burrowing owls. This program is part of Save The Bay’s ongoing wetland restoration projects with our site partner East Bay Regional Park District. Due to the sensitive nature of the restoration site, space is limited and RSVP is requested. Please complete the online registration form for yourself or a group, and note that we will contact you with other potential project dates if we can't fit your group on the project date that you have requested. If you need more information about this or other events please contact Sarah Lyons, Administrative Assistant at (510) 452-9261 x119 or email bayevents@saveSFbay.org.
No experience necessary, all ages welcome. Gloves, tools and all instruction are provided. Each event is led by Save The Bay staff, who are certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid and all site projects have been planned to insure safety. This opportunity is sponsored by: Save The Bay (Save The San Francisco Bay Assoc.)
