To acquire and distribute food in partnership with organizations serving people in need.
Description:
Second Harvesters Food Bank works to address the problem of hunger in our community caused by the extreme poverty level. Second Harvesters Food Bank distributes millions of pounds of food to the southern part of Louisiana, providing thousands of quality meals to men, women and children in need daily. Every dollar donated to the food bank will feed a family of four. Every volunteer can pack $102 worth of food for redistribution to the hungry in a single hour.
History:
Second Harvesters Food Bank of Greater New Orleans, Inc. began operations in 1983 under the auspices of the Office of the Social Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. In the twenty years since its founding, the food bank has distributed millions of pounds of food to those less fortunate in Louisiana. In 1985, Second Harvesters became a certified member of the America's Second Harvest National Food Bank network.

Overall Experience
I really enjoyed how three other volunteers and myself worked together as a team to ask donations for the Food Bank -I feel we connected with a lot more people than I would have imagined
