This is a unique opportunity for those who love to cook! Learn to cook in an authentically restored 1830s open-hearth kitchen and interpret this "living history" to visitors. Cooking docents are part of a 4-5 person team who cook one Thursday each month from October through May. They follow historic recipes and techniques in preparing menus with appropriate seasonal ingredients. This information is demonstrated and interpreted to museum visitors. At the end of the day, even though they might be dirty and tired, they get to enjoy the food that they spent all day cooking for dinner! Additionally, cooking docents receive free parking while volunteering and a discount in the gift shop. We want cooking docents who have a love of food and cooking, an interest in culinary history, the ability to stand for long periods of time, the ability to withstand heat, good interpersonal skills, a friendly manner, and the ability to speak in public or a willingness to learn. Teaching or presentation experience is a plus but not necessary. This opportunity is sponsored by: Hermann-Grima/Gallier Historic Houses
