Triboro Youth Theatre’s (TYT) mission is to provide cultural enrichment for young people through the performing arts. TYT participants, who range from four years old through seniors in high school, enjoy enormous growth through acting, musical training, speech, creative movement and dance. Students can also choose to participate in off-stage areas of theatrical production, including stage crew, set construction, costume design, publicity, internships, etc. Triboro Youth Theatre is a production-based group, and utilizes an effective "learn by doing" approach through collaboration with professional staff and artists.
Description:
Triboro Youth Theatre produces musicals all year long - sometimes as many as 9 shows per season. We work with our youngest actors on productions such as "Disney's 101 Dalmatians" or "Rumpelstiltskin" and produce larger and longer musicals such as "Sound of Music," "Honk!" "Bells Are Ringing" with our high school age performers. The company also trains students on the technical side of theater. We use the latest equipment in lighting, sound and special effects. Our high school age shows typical budget is over $20,000 per production. We strive for high quality shows at the same time we include every child with every skill level. No one is turned away. If a large number of students present themselves at auditions we double cast and add performances in order to accomodate everyone. TYT performes at Thacher School in Attleboro. Students come from many surrounding communities from Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The majority come from Attleboro, North Attleboro, Norton and Mansfield.
History:
TYT was founded in the fall of 1996 by Vivian K. Humphrey. Mrs. Humphrey has 27 years of youth theatre experience. In the past eleven seasons the company has produced 80 mainstage productions as well as a troupe that traveled to libraries, parks and recreation centers. Many of our current staff have been involved since they were children. Triboro Musical Theatre was formed in 2003 for young people age 16 and older.
