Friends of India Point Park is a group of citizens dedicated to protecting, improving and expanding India Point Pk in ways that uphold its integrity as an informal, natural open space. We support improvements that are consistent with the Park's character as an unstructured refuge from the city.
Description:
Friends of India Point Park (FIPP) worked with the Parks Department to design a state of the art playground. We involved 500 Fox Point residents in a tile project at the park. We work closely with DOT to minimize the impact of the Interstate 195 relocation on the park. We are active in the city comprehensive plan revision and waterfront public space process. We are working to expand the bike path in the park.
History:
A group of residents gathered together in 2000 to discuss what would happen to the park during the I195 relocation. We have about 100 supporters and have a steering committee who work on different areas of concern. We have spring and fall clean-ups at the park. We hold a yearly informational meeting to keep people up to date on actions that impact the park. Our steering committee meets monthly to report and act on business before the group.
