The Caring for China Center is dedicated to facilitating the development of democracy at the grassroots level by supporting prisoners of conscience and pro-democracy dissidents in China, supporting the underprivileged of China (i.e. orphans), and encouraging research and scholarly exchanges on issues of Chinese democracy.
Description:
The search for freedom is mankind’s most common pursuit. Human rights are without borders. “Caring for China Center,” is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing in China, this ancient nation with an enormous population, the Human Rights First Principle, where the development of each person’s freedom becomes the future of all development.
In today’s world, only a political system based on a constitutional government can realize on the largest scale the legal conditions for the development of human freedoms.
We founded “Caring for China Center” specifically to promote China’s transition into a democratic constitutional nation that is governed by law.
History:
Caring for China Center was founded in 2003, by Xu Wenli a recently exiled political dissident from China.
Mr. Xu has spent a total of 16 years in prison; the first time for founding and directing the April 5th Forum, which discussed the possibility of democracy in China; and the second time for establishing the Chinese Democratic Party in 1998.
Since his exile to the US for medical reasons in 2002, Mr. Xu has received an honorary doctorate from Brown University and serves as a professor in the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown.
