The mission of the National Federation of the Blind of RI is to assist blind people in achieving equality, security, and opportunity.
Description:
The NFB of Rhode Island is an affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind. With affiliates in all 50 states, plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, the NFB is the largest and most influential membership organization of blind people in the United States. The NFB educates the public about the capabilities of blind people and provides a support system/network for people who are blind or coping with vision loss. NFB also provides information about coping with blindness as well as information about community resources. The NFB of RI meets on the second Saturday of each month, except for July. Also, October's meeting coincides with the annual state convention, which is usually held on the fourth Saturday.
History:
Changing what it means to be blind in Rhode Island. The National Federation of the Blind of Rhode Island is this state's affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind. Our parent organization was formed in 1940 to try to improve the standard of living for the blind in this country. In 1970, this affiliate came into existence and began its work in bettering the lives for blind Rhode Islanders.
