Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization that's working to build
a community-oriented animal care and adoption center
that will help ensure the safety of Bristol residents
while identifying loving, permanent homes for the
animals in our care.

Description:
Currently, we are campaigning to pass a bond issue to build a new 9,000 sq.ft. municipal shelter on donated land located off of San Francisco Avenue. The new, green building will replace our current structure, which is structurally unsound, has no parking, is too small to accommodate our animals and volunteers, and is
situated in a spot where we can’t expand. The new home of the Bristol Animal Shelter will be a user-friendly building that will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will be an essential 9,000 sq.ft.
center financed with a $2 million bond from the Town
of Bristol that will also include a reception area, safe housing for animals, a quarantine room, and a humane education center. Upon completion, this public resource will also be earmarked as a Federal Emergency
Management Agency site; in the event of a disaster,
we will have facilities and resources to care for
displaced animals. Phase Two is a 3,000 sq.ft. addition that will be built entirely with individual contributions and will include revenue-generating assets that will include a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, a retail shop, and mausoleum, along
with a volunteer office.

History:
We have been in existence since April 2007. We have hired an architect and have created the design and plans for the new animal shelter. We have since raised $1 million dollars in donations and in-kind services.
