The main function of Fox Point Senior Citizens, Inc. is to promote programs and activities for the social and economic betterment of the senior citizens living in the Fox Point area.
Description:
Fox Point Senior Citizens, Inc. is a private, non profit senior center that provides seniors in and around the Fox Point area with a hot meals program, educational and recreational activities, information and referral, and interpretation. We are presently focusing on physical fitness and wellness programs, such as swimming, tai chi, upper and lower body strengthening, and dance. We also provide flu shot clinics, eye testing, and more. We feel that keeping fit will present our seniors with a more fulfilling, healthy life in their golden years.
History:
Fox Point Senior Citizens, Inc. was begun in the early 1970s by six senior citizens and a Providence Corporation worker. The organization was incorporated in 1972 and a full set of officers and board members were elected. The center was located at 57 Sheldon Street when it first began, but the agency quickly outgrew this location. We are now located at the Fox Point Boys & Girls Club, 90 Ives Street in Providence. We provide services to approximately 150 persons per year. The majority of our clients are Portuguese or of Portuguese descent.
