Our mission is to develop a religious response to global warming in Rhode Island. We are an alliance of congregations across the state that believe that we must become better stewards of Creation. The faith-based community has successfully acted in the past on issues of major social concern, such as women's suffrage and civil rights, and we feel that we are called again out of moral obligation to pass a livable world onto succeeding generations.
Description:
We are largely a volunteer-based organization that works in the faith community in Rhode Island. Our major activities are outreach, education and advocacy to emphasize energy efficiency and renewable energy. Our volunteers tend to be highly enthusiastic people with a deep religious faith. Most, though not all, belong to a religious congregation. We are open to working with all mainstream faiths.
History:
We are 18 months old, incorporated in January 2008. We held our first annual conference at Bishop Hendricken High School, with 150+ attendees. About 70 congregations in Rhode Island have participated with us to date. We are members of the RI Climate Coalition and have testified before the RI Senate and House regarding climate legislation.
