To provide crisis intervention and support services to all victims of domestic violence and their families in order to help survivors recover from the trauma of domestic violence. We work towards the elimination of domestic violence by increasing public awareness and decreasing tolerance of domestic violence through community collaboration and education. The Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women will strive to improve the quality and safety of the lives of victims who are seeking peace in their homes and in their daily existence.
Description:
Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women runs a toll free nationally available helpline and trained volunteer advocates offer support, information, referral and direct services to victims and survivors of intimate partner violence through our nationally available toll free helpline.
We also work on educating the community about the devastating effects of domestic violence and work towards ending domestic violence for all victims.
History:
Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women (DAHMW) was incorporated in October of 2000 out of a perceived need by it's founder for such a service. Although there are over 2000 shelter programs in the country that focus on offering services to female domestic violence victims and survivors, there is only one that specializes in assisting male victims of spousal and intimate partner violence, DAHMW. Over 15,000 calls have come into the helpline since inception and each year the call volume increases as more victims in need find out about our service.
