Turning Around Ministries (TAM) is a faith-based community outreach program designed to help residents of the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) and their families successfully live in our community.
Description:
TAM works with other agencies and groups to provide services to men and women in the following areas: Personal development, Education, Employment, Medical Treatment, Housing, Food, Clothing, and Transportation. Each potential client is interviewed and is told about TAM. If the client decides to participate in the program, he/she will be assigned a mentor. The client, with the help of TAM and others, will develop a plan to help the client achieve his/her goals. The mentor will work with the client for up to 24 months.
History:
TAM began as the Prison Aftercare Ministry of Community Baptist Church in December, 2004. However, due to the needs of the community, it has evolved into a ministry that addresses the needs of ex-offenders, as well as, others in the community that may have legal and/or social issues. TAM presently consists of people from four area churches – Community Baptist Church, New Beginnings Praise and Worship Center, New HBC Worship Center, and St. Lucy’s Catholic Church. TAM is a member of the Newport County Reentry Council.
