To train volunteer tutors to provide one on one free tutoring for adults in basic English skills and English as a Second Language.

Description:
Literacy Volunteers of South County (LV-SC)is a volunteer-based literacy agency that provides services in Narragansett, North Kingstown, and South Kingstown. LV-SC provides free, one on one tutoring to adults who request Basic English skills or English as a Second Language skills for reading, writing, and/or speaking. LV-SC also sponsors a Conversation Group that meets three times a month to provide group services to those who wish to improve their speaking skills. We also sponsor an ESL Book Club in North Kingstown. The organization is led by a small Board of Directors (all volunteers), about 40 volunteers in various roles, and one paid Program Director. LV-SC has an office at South County Community Action in Wakefield.

History:
Our affiliate was created in the mid-80s to serve a need for literacy services by providing individual free tutoring in the South County area. It received accreditation from its parent Literacy Volunteers of RI (now ProLiteracy America)in 2000.
