Our Mission:

AIDS Care Ocean State, Inc. is dedicated to providing quality housing, case management, medical/ nursing care and prevention to adults, families, adolescents and children who are affected by or at risk for HIV infection. AIDS Care Ocean State, Inc. will act as an advocate for individuals and families at risk while providing those support services needed to ensure and maintain a high quality of life.

Description:
AIDS Care Ocean State (ACOS) is Rhode Island's largest provider of high quality services to adults, children and families infected with or affected by HIV and/or AIDS.

AIDS Care Ocean State (ACOS) provides a broad range of services including: housing resources, counseling, testing, case management, advocacy and community outreach programs focusing on prevention and wellness.


History:
AIDS Care Ocean State (ACOS) was formed in 1998 with the merger of Sunrise Community Housing and FACTS Nursery. Over the last ten years the organization has expanded to provide prevention education, harm reduction, mental health, case management, needle exchange, street outreach, housing services, advocacy and other services. The organization also manages pediatric and adolescent clinics through collaborations with area hospitals.

AIDS Care Ocean State continues their work at Sunrise House and Facts Nursery, and is always re-allocating their resources to meet the changing needs of the community.

Directions:

 Most volunteers will be working at an alternate site. However, these are directions to our main office that can be used for initial contact and interview. FROM POINTS NORTH: Take 95 south to the Atwells Avenue exit. You are now on Service road #7. Follow to Broad Street(YMCA). Take a right onto Broad Street. Follow to Elmwood Avenue (Broad street turns into Elmwood if you go straight. There will be a cemetary on your left). Parkis Avenue is the second left after West Friendship Street but before Dartmouth Avenue. FROM POINTS SOUTH: Take 95 north to Thurbers Avenue. When you exit the highway stay to the left crossing back under the interstate. Continue on Thurbers Avenue until you hit Broad Street where you must turn. Take a right at the CVS and continue on Broad Street passing St. Joseph's Hospital. Parkis Avenue is on your left after Dartmouth Avenue but before West Friendship Street. FROM POINTS EAST: Take 195 west to Providence. When you come into the city stay right and get onto 95 north. Stay to the right and cross over to the first exit for Broadway. Take your first left and cross over the interstate. Take your first left onto Service Road #7. Follow to Broad Street(YMCA). Take a right onto Broad Street. Follow to Elmwood Avenue (Broad street turns into Elmwood if you go straight. There will be a cemetary on your left). Parkis Avenue is the second left after West Friendship Street but before Dartmouth Avenue.
  Nearest Bus Stop: The #11 bus to Broad St/Parkis Ave OR the #20 bus to Elmwood Ave./Dexter Ave., 1 minute walk
