The Bradford Jonnycake Center of Westerly is a non-profit charitable organization that provides food, clothing, household goods and financial assistance to qualified residents of Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond, and Westerly, Rhode Island. Our mission is to help people get through crisis situations and to work with each individual to find a path out of dependence toward self-sufficiency.

Description:
We are located in the former Guild Guitar building at 23 Industrial Drive near the heart of downtown Westerly's commercial district. In that location, we operate a 2,500 square foot modern food pantry which provides food and personal items to low-income, elderly and unemployed individuals and members of their households. In calendar 2008, we expect to provide over 150,000 equivalent meals to some 3,000 clients, half of whom are elderly or children.
The Center operates a 5,000 square-foot thrift store which is open to the general public and where low-income families with a voucher can shop at no cost.
The Center provides emergency financial assistance to clients who need help due to an unexpected financial crisis.
Our classroom facilities are used by outside organizations who conduct GED, ESL and job search training classes for our clients and members of the general public.
We make referrals to other agencies if needed services are not available at the Center.
The Center sometimes has positions available for persons who are required to do community service.

History:
The Center was founded in 1975 in Bradford, RI and was a fixture on North Main Street (behind the Bradford Post Office) for over three decades. In that location, a small thrift shop and food pantry provided assistance to residents of Bradford and the Westerly/Chariho area. In June of 2007, the Center relocated to our current home in the old Guild Guitar building at 23 Industrial Drive in Westerly. Our new location (over 9,000 square feet) is three times larger than our former Bradford facility, which permitted us to expand as our clients’ needs have increased.
