The Neighborhood Friendly Visitor Program is a community-based program whose purpose is to provide volunteer visitors to the lonely and isolated elderly in the state regardless of race, color, or creed. The goal is to strengthen and enhance outreach efforts to ensure that every senior remains a part of the community.
Description:
By offering their support and friendship, volunteers have brightened the days of many elderly and helped to ease the loneliness and isolation that are a part of their daily living. Any homebound person or nursing home resident 60 years of age or older is eligible to participate. This program is available statewide. Individuals, families and small groups of volunteers looking to volunteer together are encouraged to participate in our program.
History:
This program was developed in 1978 and is funded by the RI Dept. of Elderly Affairs. It is administered thru the Diocese of Providence.
