To place seniors 55+ into meaningful volunteer opportunities to enhance their lives and the community in which they serve.
Description:
The Capitol Region RSVP provides the means for people, 55 and older, to choose a volunteer assignment that will help make an impact upon the communities of Rhode Island and give the volunteer great personal satisfaction. This RSVP covers the communities of Providence, North Providence and Johnston. Whatever appeals to you, be assured that you will be asked to share your skills and expertise in promoting greater strength within the agencies and communities you choose. The Capitol Region RSVP is here to assist you in your decision. We have programs that provide a positive impact on our community. They include, book-in-a-bag, senior computer literacy program, knitting hats/mittens for children, and various intergenerational projects.
History:
Capitol Region Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has served communities of Greater Providence for over 30 years. Established at first under the sponsorship of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence and Rhode Island College Department of Gerontology, the program has functioned under auspices of the Volunteer Center of Rhode Island since 1980. Capitol Region RSVP now operates under the Federal Hill House Association which allows for the senior volunteers greater accessibility into the community.
