To equip and empower faculty, students and staff to strategically and collaboratively use their resources to address community needs. To facilitate, deepen and expand the University's community initiatives and community partnerships.
Description:
The Feinstein Community Service Center (FCSC) coordinates the University's Community Service Learning (CSL) program, in which thousands of students complete course-related service at local nonprofit agencies. The FCSC works with students, faculty and staff to encourage and support them in their volunteerism efforts; with nonprofit partner agencies to help them achieve their missions; and with hunger and homelessness-related causes, to help eliminate hunger in our state.
History:
In 1995, Alan Shawn Feinstein, founder of the Feinstein Foundation, recognized that J&W had created strong community programs and hunger initiatives, and gave an endowment to establish the Feinstein Community Service Center and create the Feinstein 'Enriching America' Community Service Learning program. The CSL program was instituted as a graduation requirement in 1996.
