The Autism Project of RI is a non-profit organization committed to educating and training the many parents, teachers and community members who work with or support children with autism. Since our inception in 1997 we have been in the forefront of developing many new and innovative programs that enrich the lives of children with autism.
Description:
Our vision is to create a comprehensive system of services to support children with autism, their families and the many professionals who work with them. We accomplish this by educating parents, family members and professionals involved in a child with autism's life. Today the APRI provides the following programs/services to children with autism and the many caregivers who support them. A Starting Point-a nine week parent training series, Parent to Parent-a parent coaching series offered in both Spanish and English. Aspire- a 5 week series for parents and professionals exploring the unique characteristics of children with Asperger Syndrome. We also offer social skills groups for children as well as summer camp.
History:
The Autism Project was established in 1997 and has provided workshops and training to 90% of the school districts in the state. Over 1500 parents, teachers and other professionals have participated in our programs. Parent registration for our introductory training has increased 100%. Our consultant staff has worked with many school districts and our camp has doubled in size since its inception. We continue to implement new programs and services each year to an increasing population of children with autism.
