The Mt. Hope Learning Center's mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which children and adults of the community can learn skills that will enable them to have productive futures.
Description:
The Mt. Hope Learning Center provides free academic and enrichment classes for members of the Mt. Hope community. The Learning Center was started as a completely volunteer-run organization. Today the Learning Center still relies on generous volunteers who give their time to teach and tutor as well as provide office and maintenance assistance. The Learning Center provides one on one tutoring and homework help as well as a variety of classes including cooking, arts, piano lessons, science, ESL and computers.
History:
The Mt. Hope Learning Center was founded in collaboration with the Mt. Hope Community Police. The goal was to provide a safe environment in which residents of all ages in Mt. Hope could learn and form positive relationships with the police. The Learning Center is currently home to a community police sub-station and a site for the RI Attorney General's Office, Community Prosecutor, but the primary focus is education.
