The mission of the Southside Community Land Trust is to provide resources that will assist communities to become more self sufficient and improve their quality of life by: promoting and implementing community gardening, providing access to locally grown farm produce, facilitating environmental education, and helping to catalyze solutions for other community needs.
Description:
Southside Community Land Trust began in 1981. Today, the Land Trust encompasses: a network of community gardens through Providence's West End and Southside neighborhoods; an extensive school-based environmental education program; City Farm, a certified organic farm; the Broad Street Farmers' Market; and Urban Edge Farm, a 50 acre farm in Western Cranston, home to SCLT's CSA and Farm Business Incubator Programs. SCLT offers outdoor volunteer opportunities during the growing season, and office volunteer opportunities year round.
