Since 1974 Senior Services, Inc. has provided services to elderly and handicapped residents of Northern Rhode Island. Our mission is to maintain people as active, independent members of the community and prevent premature institutionalization.
Description:
Currently we are the nutrition program for our area, serving hot, nutritionally balanced lunches five days per week. We also have an adult day care program and a Community Information Specialist who can provide information on eligibility for all state and local programs, help with health insurance enrollment and Medicare D or RIPAE. Activities and computer classes are also provided. Our Alternative Adult Care Center is a day program for frail elderly or adults living with disabilities. Health monitoring and medication administration by a registered nurse, breakfast, lunch and daily snacks, appropriate activities and transportation are part of this program, which is unique in our area.
History:
Founded in 1974 by a group of local residents looking to expand services for seniors, Senior Services, Inc. began with a lunch program at one site but has expanded over the years to 13 sites in Woonsocket and five neighboring towns. Our office moved to the Woonsocket Senior Center in 1983, when it opened. The Alternative Adult Care Center opened in 1988, first coordinated by the Visiting Nurses and later taken over by Senior Services. It is a day care program that helps families keep their frail or handicapped member living at home.
