| Last updated on June 9, 2008 |
Plan USA is an international, child-centered development organization, linking caring people and institutions in the U.S. with needy children overseas. As a member of a global organization working in over 60 countries, we exist to help children and their families and communities to achieve substantial and lasting improvements in their quality of life.
Description:
Helping children since 1937, Plan USA partners with children, families, and communities affected by poverty throughout the developing world to achieve essential and lasting improvements in their lives and communities. Plan USA's programs address their emergency and on-going basic needs, develop critical infrasructure, leverage resources, increase their ability to participate in and benefit from their societies, and improve their overall quality of life. Plan USA's primary vehicle of change is child sponsorship, which brings this help through personal relationships - building understanding, communication, and caring between persons and across cultures, and increasing recognition of and respect for the rights, interests, and welfare of the world's children. Plan USA is one of the oldest and largest international development agencies in the world. In 2007, Plan's programs directly assisted more than 1.5 million sponsored children and their families in poor communities and indirectly supported a further estimated 9 million people who live in the communities that have partnered with Plan. Plan USA is the U.S. member of Plan International, a global alliance of over 65 countries. Plan USA is a federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity incorporated in New York which has with no governmental, political, or religious affiliations.
