The Norman Bird Sanctuary is a Wildlife Refuge and Environmental Education Center, which offers visitors over 300 acres of hiking trails, educational programs and guided bird walks every Sunday morning.
Description:
Hikers may enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean atop Hanging Rock, take a leisurely walk through the woods or view the natural activity by our pond. Join us for fun and unique educational programs for adults, children and families throughout the year, including mushrooms, wild herbs, geology, wildflower walks and owl prowls. The Sanctuary also offers bird walks for beginner to advanced birders. The Sanctuary is open 7 days a week, from 9am to 5pm.
History:
The Norman Bird Sanctuary was founded in 1949 through the generous bequest of Mabel Norman Cerio. Today the Sanctuary protects over 300 acres of land, including 23 pristine acres of Third Beach and Sakkonet River frontage secured in July of 2003. The Sanctuary greets thousands of nature lovers, birdwatchers, hikers and families every year.
