International House of RI is a community-based,multicultural, educational, recreational center for International visitors in Rhode Island. Our goal is to foster international understanding and friendship through educational and cultural programs.
Description:
With a dedicated staff of three and many volunteers, we provide vital services to our multi-national visitors with caring, concern, and kindness, plus contribute a great deal to the RI community. Services offered are English and foreign language classes, tutors; women's and children's activities; multinational dinners, luncheons and events; Host Family Hospitality Program; community linkages; holiday celebrations; guest rooms;emergency referrals and help; friendship; aid; a hospitable, safe, home-away-from-home; and a chance to meet caring Americans. We provide a unique and stimulating opportunity for our International House community members to exchange cultures and ideas with our interesting and special visitors. To get involved with International House of RI as a volunteer, you may stop in and fill out a short form telling us your availability for the position. You may sit in on any of our classes to get an idea of the kinds of students we serve and ask questions of the teachers. You may also look through our ESL library which would provide curriculum guides and ideas for teaching ESL.
History:
International House of Rhode Island is a non-profit social service and educational agency, established in 1963, that gives aid, services, and friendship to all temporary international residents in Rhode Island. We are an independent grass-roots agency and receive no federal or state funding.
