Nickerson Community Center's mission incorporates the provision of comprehensive, high quality programs that will empower and support those in need so that they may reach their full potential, enhance their quality of life and the community that surrounds them through the many programs and services they provide.
Description:
The Nickerson Community Center is a diverse multi-service agency that provides a wide range of human services to meet the needs of the low-income, disadvantaged, the homeless and/or the residents of the Olneyville community in Providence. Nickerson operates a nationally accredited child care center for children 8 wks - 6 yrs; out-of-school programs for kindergarten - grade 12; a transitional residential program for juvenile offenders; elder services; at-risk youth programs; transitional and supportive housing facilities for homeless veterans; housing programs; food and clothing banks; a neighborhood meal site; recovery houses; and a summer camp program for inner-city youth.
History:
Nickerson is a non-profit multi-faceted agency established in 1884. Through the years, Nickerson's programs have evolved to meet the changing needs of its community.
