Hamilton House offers a warm and friendly environment where new friendships are formed and old friendships flourish.
Description:
We provide a nutritious lunch program Monday through Friday. Hamilton Houses membership ranges in age from 55 to 105 years of age. The goal of Hamilton House is to keep seniors in their homes longer rather than having to go to costly assisted-living facilities earlier than may be necessary. We are an independently run, member-sustained center dedicated to keeping the years of later life stimulating, fruitful and fulfilling. We support ourselves through our Annual Giving Campaign, special fundraising events, planned giving, newsletter advertising and private donations. Hamilton House is a non-profit organization under the provisions of the Internal Revenue Service Code, Section 501(c)(3). For 35 years we have been clearly united in our mission to "provide a program center for older persons, without discrimination on grounds of race, creed, color or gender and to offer a wide variety of activities that enhance the meaning, pleasure and whole health of later years.
History:
Hamilton House was founded in 1972, by Reverend Raymond Gibson of the Central Congregational Church. The Central Congregational Church had a Lifetime Learning Program, for retired people aged 55 and over. Florence (Florrie) Hamilton was a member of the church. She and her husband, lived in the beautiful French chateau, located next door. When Florrie passed away in 1970, she bequeathed her stately home to the Central Congregational Church. In 1972 the Lifetime Learning Program moved next door into the home and was founded as, Hamilton House, a Community Center for Active People 55 +.
