The Herreshoff Marine Museum and America's Cup Hall of Fame are dedicated to the education and inspiration of the public through presentation of the history and innovative work of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and the America's Cup competition.

Description:
The Herreshoff Marine Museum is on the site of the former Herershoff Manufacturing Company. In 1878 the Herreshoff Maunfacturing Company (HMCo.) began operations in Bristol. It was run by brothers John B. Herreshoff, the blind older brother who was president and treasurer, and Nathanael G. Herreshoff, who was designer and superintendent. Seven America's Cup winners were designed and/or built at the boat yard in addition to many pleasure craft and boats for the U.S. Navy, including the first torpedo boats. By the time it closed its doors in 1945 HMCo. had produced over 1600 and sealed the reputation of Cap.t Nat Herreshoff as one of the world's greatest yacht and steam designers.

History:
The Museum was founded by A. Sidney and Rebecca Herreshoff in 1971. It now consists a the Hall of Boats in which over fifty Herreshoff designed boats are on display, a Model Room containing half models designed by Nathanael G. Herreshoff, an orientation room and exhibits, and the America's Cup Hall of Fame with artifacts of past and present America's Cup races and half models.
