Last updated on September 13, 2007

RIFB is dedicated to preserving farms and farmland in Rhode Island. We are forming a new organization, the RI Farm Bureau Land Trust (RIFBLT)which will be devoted to buying or accepting donations, of farmland which will be preserved forever.

Description:
RIFB is a 501 (c) (5) organization that promotes new laws for farmers in the RI General Assembly and represents farmers before local government boards. We are advocates for farmers and farming in RI. We have formed a new organization (RIFBLT) and are seeking 501 (c) (3) status. The purpose of this organization is to preserve farmland by purchasing development rights or farmland in fee simple or accepting donations of the same. While we are not a "health" organization, there is nothing more healthy than farm fresh food and wide open spaces to help protect the environment.

History:
RIFB was formed in 1953 and has successfully sought legislation on behalf of farmers to reduce property taxes through the Farm Forest and Open Space program as well as the Purchase of Development Rights program.
We have helped farmers by protecting their property rights. Our new organization, the RIFBLT, will allow us to protect farmland from development by purchasing development rights or acquiring farmland in fee simple.
