The Blessing Way is a faith-based, social service agency which seeks to reduce return to prison and/or drug relapse by providing spiritual guidance and other forms of support to men and women in transition from prison or drug treatment to the metro Providence area

Description:
We use a “wrap-around” approach which integrates our many professionals and supportive family members and friends into the delivery of services. Our services include: job assistance, transitional housing, life skills peer support group, intensive case management, emergency assistance, and spirituality.
You can have an impact on creating safer neighborhoods and helping others to have a second chance to turn their lives around by being part of The Blessing Way team. If you are a college student looking for a great assignment, we provide training and support so that you can have direct contact with clients. We need volunteers to serve as Job Coaches, Greeters, General Assistants, Board Members, Hospitality, and more.

History:
The organization was formed in 2004 under the leadership of The Rev. Dr. Joyce Penfield, a Chaplain at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI), who worked with 3 formerly incarcerated community leaders and 12 members of several different churches in Rhode Island to address the barriers faced by those released from the state prison and drug treatment centers as they returned to the greater Providence area. In 2006, The Blessing Way obtained 501.c.3 status. In 2008, we began to really expand our services for volunteers. Our full-time VISTA volunteer had that assignment. He began to create a Volunteer Handbook, training modules, and funding for a permanent Volunteer Coordinator.
