The Blessing Way is a faith-based, social service agency which seeks to reduce relapse and recidivism by providing spiritual support and guidance to men and women in transition from prison or drug treatment to the greater Providence, RI area. Registration is required to participate. For more details, call us directly or email us.

Description:
We use a ?wrap-around? approach which integrates our many professionals and supportive family members and friends into the delivery of services. Our services include: intensive case management, life skills education and spirituality, personal guidance and/or spiritual counseling, social service support referrals and emergency assistance, transitional housing program for men and women, and job coaching and assistance. You can have an impact on creating safer neighborhoods and helping others to have a second chance to turn their lives around by sharing your time, talent, and treasure with us in a variety of ways. We need volunteers to serve as Job Coaches and mentors for 4-8 months at a time. We need volunteers who can transport those newly returned to obtain official documents or get to medical appointments. There are many other ways you can help. Call us and share your ideas with us.

History:
The organization was formed in 2004 under the leadership of The Rev. Dr. Joyce Penfield, a Chaplain at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI), who worked with 3 ex-offenders and 13 members of several different churches in Rhode Island to address the barriers faced by those released from the state prison and drug treatment centers as they returned to the greater Providence area. In 2006, The Blessing Way obtained 501.c.3 status and with the help of a grant from New Roots (Providence Plan) began to expand the capacity of the organization in order to increase the number of participants we serve.
