Angels on Horseback Therapeutic Riding School is a therapeutic program that uses equine assisted therapy for children and adults with mentally and physically challenging conditions. Such conditions include cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, mental retardation, cancer, muscle weakness, autism, speech handicaps and sensory issues. Our goals are to improve the lives of these children and adults with animal assisted therapy in conjunction with their medical treatments.

Description:
Angels on Horseback Therapeutic Riding School, Inc. established in 2003 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, provides equine assisted therapy for children and adults with mentally and physically challenging conditions.

Some of our benefiting students have conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD and ADD, Down Syndrome, Developmental Delay, Multiple Sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, visual and hearing impairments, traumatic brain injuries, speech/language delays and sensory issues.

Students benefit from horseback riding by improving skills such as, speech and language, muscle tone/strength, fine motor skills, trunk control and balance, increased joint mobility and range of motion and much needed confidence and self-esteem.Our goal is to improve the lives of these children and adults using animal assisted therapy in conjunction with their medical treatments.

Angels on Horseback Therapeutic Riding School, Inc. is the second largest and long established therapeutic riding facility in Rhode Island.

We have an outstanding staff and a group of 43 caring and dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers and staff work together to meet the growing demand for therapeutic riding services in RI and CT. In 2007 our volunteers logged more than 10,100 combined hours!

Facility renovations and upgrades are on-going. Our indoor riding arena includes the recent installation of a state of the art ceiling lift system providing wheelchair bound students the ability to safely mount and be properly seated on the horse. Our “Greene Room” provides a comfortable temperature regulated environment for lesson viewing, socializing and networking.

Angels on Horseback has developed additional services to assist the needs of our students and families.

Through the use of our education room, we provide students with sensory skill development, tack cleaning, horse anatomy and terminology, arts, crafts and games. Students are welcome to stay after their lesson, or arrive early, to take advantage of any of these additional activities. Volunteers are always there and happy to assist.

Our licensed staff psychotherapist, Sandy Hass, is available FREE of charge to all of our students and family members to assist with behavior therapy techniques at home or during lessons. She is available by appointment during the scheduled lesson time.

We invite you to visit us and see what all the buzz is about at Angels on Horseback. We hope you like what you see and decide to become a part of this wonderful team and together help make a difference in someone’s future!

Proud to be Youth Spokesperson for Angels on Horseback RI

I am honored to be the Youth Spokesperson for Angels on Horseback RI. Where ever I perform, I spread the Good News about AOH, and the wonderful people in this organization. The clients are all my extra special fans! I do all I can to help raise awareness of the program and help to gather items and talents for fundraisers, benefits and the annual festival! Just seeing the clients smile when they are at the barn and on the horses, is inspiration to continue and support this organization. The volunteers and Chairpersons are always enthusiastic and go out of their way to make each client feel special.

This program is awsome and so worth while

I feel this program is the best and actualy has a family orented volunteer and staff relationship. My wife spends all her spare time teaching, volunteering and mentoring at this school and it's so worth the time well spent to see the children happy and learning from this riding school. GREAT JOB EVERYONE! THANK YOU !
