To improve the lives of income-eligible elders by arranging volunteer opportunities with children of all ages who are in need of special attention from caring adults.
Description:
In return for the commitment to nurture, tutor, and mentor special needs children, the elders are provided with a small stipend, travel reimbursements, training, and recreational activities at no cost to them.
History:
The Foster Grandparent Program was founded in 1965 to make it possible for elders to give of their experience and talent to improve the lives of children. The Program is federally funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service, and sponsored locally by the Federal Hill House Association.
