VCRI is seeking an AmeriCorps* VISTA to help with our new program operated in partnership with the Rhode Island Dept. of Health to establish a plan to recruit, train and manage unaffiliated medical and non-medical volunteers for large-scale health related emergencies and other disaster situations. The VISTA will assist in preparing this volunteer management plan. This will include community outreach to recruit and engage community groups and business partners to help staff regional Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC) for placement of unaffiliated volunteers. The VISTA will assist with planning trainings and exercises to prepare the volunteers. The VISTA will also maintain a database of trained volunteers and provide on-going communication to keep volunteers engaged.
This is a full time(35 hour per week) volunteer position with minimal stipend. Interested applicants need to apply to the AmeriCorps* website at http://www.americorps.org. More details about requirements and limitations can be found there as well. The applicant should be aware of disaster-related concerns and have an interest in collaborating with others to prepare the population for various disaster situations.

Overall Experience
When I go to VCRI am greeted with a pleasant environment and a learning experience

The Volunteer Center of Rhode Island is a main artery that connects agencies across the state with volunteers. My volunteer helped me to feel needed in the work place despite my disability and has given me training that will assist me in helping other agencies in the near future. posted by Mistyblue4me on July 26, 2003 |
