The Steel Yard is proud to announce its 2008 fundraiser, "Works in Progress". From May 15th through the 18th, we throw our doors open and welcome the public to our most ambitious fundraiser to date. This year's adventure will offer an exciting and unusual menu of opportunities with something for all ages, varied interests and any ability to pay. From ticketed dinners with the founders and arts organizers, to free events and tours, to a special edition of Providence's biggest dance party. There will be food for all, all weekend long, and even a family slow-cooked bbq dinner (with smoked vegetables of course). Throughout the fundrasier's four day period, we'll offer regular tours, studio demos, a raffle, silent auction as well as a chance to shop for one of a kind gifts and souvenirs made by local artists and craftspeople. The volunteer opportunities are just as varied as the events during that weekend. We are looking for folks to help with tours, merchandise, site clean-up pre- and post- event, volunteer leaders, artists to paint signs, security, and more. Check out photos from last year's fundraiser to get an idea of all the fun to be had! Photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesteelyard/sets/72157600326419673/
There will be training required for most volunteer positions. Typically, this training will be no more than an hour at some point before the event. Some volunteer abilities/skills/age may limit the specific activity they are involved with, but with so many opportunities, we'll do our best to find a good fit. With specific questions, please call Jackson at 401.273.7101 or e-mail at jackson@thesteelyard.org. Thank you for your help!
