PROVIDENCE—Southside Community Land Trust announces the 16th Annual Rare and Unusual Plant Sale at City Farm in Providence’s Southside on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 from 10am to 2pm. More than 14,000 organically raised plants will be available for purchase at one of the area’s largest outdoor plant sales. SCLT invites Providence to celebrate spring at City Farm, located on the corner of Dudley and West Clifford Streets, where organically farmed, lovingly nurtured plants of all kinds will be available for purchase. Plants include culinary and medicinal herbs for kitchen windowsill gardens, delicious and nutritious vegetables for backyard and container gardens, and flowering annuals and an assortment of perennials for window boxes, flowerbeds and rooftop gardens. There are many varieties to choose from, and many opportunities to bring the beauty and health of urban agriculture home. Rare and unusual plants are available in limited quantities and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. SCLT members will receive a 10% discount on both days of the plant sale. A special Members Preview is scheduled for 9am, Saturday, May 17th. In the tradition of past sales, the plant sale will feature local talent. Local musicians, including Circle of the Drum, Emily Dignan, Fenner, Chris Monti, The Gnomes, Jacob Haller, Tori Ackley, The Killdevils, We’re all in This Together and more will perform their groovin’ tunes in the gardens as attendees browse the vast selection of plants. SCLT’s Youth Garden Clubs will be selling vegetable and herb seeds. Organic compost and fertilizer will also be for sale. Plant experts will available to answer questions. Last year over 1,400 people came to support SCLT’s mission and work in the community through their plant sale purchases. Proceeds benefit SCLT’s innovative urban agriculture and education programs.
