Summer Community Development Intern Internship

NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley (NBRV), a community development corporation, is seeking 2 part-time (or 1 full-time) summer intern(s) to assist with the summer youth program. The summer program runs from 9am to 8pm and is provided free for elementary, middle and high school students living in NBRV housing.

Responsibilities:
Interns will provide the following support to the Community Building and Development Department-

  • Conduct best practices research on child development
  • Provide one on one mentoring with elementary, middle and high school youth
  • Provide additional office support
  • Plan end of summer community event with government officials, school personnel and community residents
  • Assist the summer teaching staff with daily operations
  • Work closely with the youth leadership team to plan summer activities
  • Recruit college volunteers for the academic year
  • Qualifications:
    Ideal applicants will meet the following qualifications-

    • Current college student (the best applicants will be studying education, political science, urban affairs or social justice issues)
    • Ability to work at least 20 hours a week. We offer a flexible schedule, however interns must work at least 2 days starting at 10am to provide appropriate mentorship.
    • Able to start June 23rd and work into August
    • Must be a highly motivated team player dedicated to the elimination of the social factors perpetuating the cycle of poverty in this Urban city.
    • Must have experience working with youth
    • Applicants would benefit from working knowledge of Spanish, however it is not necessary for the position

    • Length of Commitment:
    June - August
    (exceptions can be made based on college schedules, we can also extend internship into the academic year if interest arises)

    $1500 stipend is paid upon completion of internship or we are more than willing to work with colleges and universities to arrange academic credit for the internship.
